Greeting golfers,
There's only one place to begin this week's email and that is with Jordan Spieth who finds himself £7.5 million pounds richer. He has had a truly remarkable season by anyone's standards, and capped it off in fantastic style by claiming victory in the Tour Championship to secure the FedExCup title. The Masters and US Open champion started the day one clear before going on to shoot a one-under-par 69 to win by four. Taking a look back at Spieth's year, victory in the Masters saw him climb to number two in the world, a position he held for around four months behind Rory McIlroy until a second placed finish in the PGA Championship saw him hit the top of the rankings. With this status came a new pressure on the 22-year-old Texan who struggled to live with these heights, missing two cuts in a row at The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship after which he fell to number three in the world. But his latest win, albeit in a field of just 28 players, with him knowing exactly what was at stake, is just as impressive as any other of his wins this year. It'll be interesting to see if he can cement his place as number one, or will Jason Day and Rory McIlroy continue to trade blows in the battle to be the world's best golfer?
Last weekend saw the final trophies of the season being contested for in the shape of the Knockout Finals, Summer League and the All Winners Trophy. Congratulations go to Mike Pickering (Singles KO Winner), Justin Hatcher & Norman Heywood (Doubles KO Champions) and another 'Dad and Lad' double with Justin winning the Summer League and son Lucas winning the All Winners Trophy with a Saturday score of 69.
It is with regret that this years Presentation Night on the 16th October has now been CANCELLED due to lack of interest and confirmed numbers. It is a real shame to do this, as they act as a great night to bring members together socially and celebrates the members achievements throughout the season.
Just a reminder that the PGA North Region event on the 7th & 8th October is being held. Though with limited numbers in the field "Fed-Ex" style, I have now released times from 1pm each day, if any members do fancy a game during the afternoon.
