Greetings golfers, 

Well this week has had it all hasn't it? The Lytham festival has grown in size and it seemed like half of the Fylde and our members were there at some point or other and the return of the Blackpool Air Show including the world famous Red Arrows greeted many of you when flying over the golf course on Sunday. Also flying high will be Irishman Shane Lowry who took his first 'mini major' win; winning in Akron at the World Golf Championship over in Ohio. The Srixon/Cleveland sponsored Lowry birdied the last hole and made some nerveless up and downs coming down the stretch to hold off big hitting Bubba Watson for the win and those of you who stayed up to watch him will have noticed how good Lowry is from around the green using his Cleveland wedges. Look further on in the newsletter below for our special Cleveland wedge offer and let's see if we can get you pitching like Shane. 

 

Just a short notification that the 'competition' 3rd tee will be back in play from this weekend and the bunker to the right of the 9th green will also be back in play.

 

This week saw the 11th playing of the annual Chris O'Keeffe Memorial Golf Day which this year raised over £1000 for Trinity house, the golf day is run by our very own past captain Steve O'Keeffe in memory of his brother and is always well supported by Herons' Reach members. This year was no different and some bandits even managed to come out on top…more about them later!! Unfortunately Steve was unable to take part this year but that didn't stop his enthusiasm for the day and he even managed to drive round the course and provide refreshment or two for the competitors out on the course.

A quick note from Steve below: 

'Dear All, 
Just a quick note to say a massive thanks to all those that played, and helped with yesterday's golf day. The weather was fabulous and the whole day was a great success. We managed to raise £1068 which I will be passing on to Trinity Hospice shortly, so not only was great fun had by all, but a fantastic sum has been given to a fabulous cause. I have put loads of pictures on my facebook page, which is open to all, and I have attached the full scores, and list of winners. Thanks again, and hopefully we can do it all again next year...the 12th year. Keep well all Steve'

Congratulations to the team of Andy Brady, Andy MacAleese, Steve Whittaker and Bob Wolstencroft on annihilating the opposition with a fantastic score of 127 points winning by 8 points from their closest rivals. Andy McAleese also managed to pick up individual honours with his score of 43 points with his own ball. Well done Andy!!
