All eyes on $15 million

Things are heating up on the PGA Tour as the season-finale TOUR Championship gets underway this week.

Justin Thomas climbed to the top of the FedExCup standings (the PGA Tour's Order of Merit) over the weekend thanks to a three-shot victory at the BMW Championship. Now it’s on to East Lake where the top 30 players in the FedExCup rankings go toe-to-toe in a bid to land the meagre $15 million prize in a new format that sees players handed starting strokes based on their current rankings.

Current leader Justin Thomas will tee off on 10-under-par whilst Jason Kokrak, who sits at 30th in the rankings, starts the tournament level-par.

Rules news

Flagstick fiasco

South Korean Soomin Lee got himself booted out of the D+D Real Czech Masters on Saturday afternoon after finding himself on the wrong side of the Rules of Golf.

After opting to have his caddie attend the flagstick on the 11th green, Lee went on to drain his putt only for his caddie to forget to remove the flagstick. As it was not removed and the ball holed, Rule 11.2c would apply, which means the putt didn't count and Lee should have replayed the shot under a penalty of two strokes.

However, both Lee and his caddie were unaware of this rule and once Lee had teed off on the next hole, he was disqualified under Rule 3.3c (failure to hole out). Ouch!

Back to basics

There are any number of online tutorials giving you the 'perfect advice' as to how to cure a specific problem you may have with your game. However, the key to solving most issues in sport (golf included) is to go right back to where it all began - the fundamentals.

Check your fundamentals

The way you set-up to the ball writes the script for the swing. This may be one of the more basic elements to the game but yet it is also one of the most overlooked – and that can be dangerous for your scorecard.

Jack Nicklaus once said:

"If you set up correctly, there's a good chance you'll hit a reasonable shot, even if you make a mediocre swing. If you set up to the ball poorly, you'll hit a lousy shot even if you make the greatest swing in the world”

The most beautiful shot in golf

If we were to ask you this question what would you say? We think some of you would say the ‘Tiger stinger’ but a good proportion would say the pitch shot that takes a couple of bounces before stopping to a halt. It looks sensational but how on earth do you play it?
