Well what a weekend up at Gleneagles!! I know many of you will have watched the events unfold in the Ryder Cup over the weekend in awe of what some of the greatest players on the planet can produce under the greatest pressure. I hope it gave you the golf bug back after a long season and with the unusually warm weather we are currently experiencing why not get out on the course and extend your golfing season into October.

Members' Competition Result - Sat 28th September

The last trophy of the year went to John Astbury, who won the All Winners Trophy. This is the final event, where all the past winners from events this season compete "Fed-Ex Cup" style. John's score of 71 nett was the best posted by those players in the "winners field" so congratulations to him. All trophies this year, will be presented at the Presentation Ball on Saturday 11th October 2014. To see a full list of scores, please log on to www.howdidido.co.uk  

The Handicap Team will also be playing their last match of the season this Sunday 4th October in the Rose Bowl. This is where all the Fyldes teams compete in a 4BBB Medal format. All 5 team scores are accumulated and the winner derives from those scores. The lads are looking to pick up their 2nd trophy of the season after winning the Cockerill cup earlier in the season. Good luck to all who is playing. If you want to go and watch them, then they are playing at St Annes Old Links on a 2pm shotgun start. Reports and hopefully a few pictures of the day will be put into next week's newsletter.

I wanted to let you know that the Winter League competition we talked about a few weeks ago is now FULL. We have had a terrific response from our members for the new format, and places shifted within days! First match of the season to start on Sunday 19th October 2014.

As we are all aware, winter is sneaking up on us, despite the glorious weather we have been having. Head Greenkeeper Sean, and all of the greenkeeping staff will soon be implementing our winter course maintenance programme, which will include coring and dressing of greens, bunker renovation and tee renovation along with necessary pruning and general maintenance work around the course. We also will see the re-introduction of our Winter trolley restrictions out on the course, once the weather does turn. Most of you are aware of our policies we put in place, but if you are unaware or are a new member then please email here for any queries, or ask in the Pro Shop for more details.

As with most golf course related topics, all of the above will be weather dependant, and we will try and make you aware of any works or changes as soon as possible.
