Last week's winners

Congratulations to Alexander McCuish & Michael McCorry on winning their respective divisions last Saturday each winning with a score of 42 Points.

The Ladies winter league has just started with Saturdays round returning some very good scores, Louise O’Keeffe coming in with 19 points for 9 holes to have the best score of the week!

On a lighter note one of our members, Lee Hardy…. Has sent out an SOS! If anyone can help him par the 18th he will buy you a drink or two! In his last 4 rounds he has managed three 7’s and a 6, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Christmas Scramble

We are now taking entries for this year’s Christmas Scramble which will be played on Saturday 15th December. The format will be a shotgun start at 9:30am so please arrive no later than 8:45am so that holes can be allocated. Teams will be drawn at random the day before.

5 day and Playmore golf members are subject to a £10 Green fee as well as the normal £5 entry.

The scramble will be followed by the presentation and the Christmas draw, where as usual there will be lots of great prizes to be won!

Course news

Winter wheels notice

I think that you will all agree that the course is in a much better position than 12 months ago, the weather has been kind to us and thankfully the rain has stayed away, in the main! However, we now have to think about protecting the course over the winter months to put us in a strong position going in to next year.

Sean and his team have been out roping areas off, please refrain from cutting under the ropes! They are there for a reason!

We also ask that winter wheels are now fitted to ALL trolleys, anyone seen to be using a trolley without winter wheels will be asked to rent one or fit their own winter wheels. If you don’t own a pair of winter wheels then come and see us in the golf shop. We have winter wheels available to buy.

It is also crucial that at this time of year you repair all pitch marks on the greens, this aids with recovery and will again mean we have a head start going in to next season.

The will to win

It was a huge moment for Danny Willett over the weekend, as the 2016 Masters Champion returned to the winners' circle after a two-year hiatus. The Englishman – who had fallen outside the top 450 in the World Rankings earlier this year – carded a final round of 68 to win the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. It marks a remarkable return to form for Willett, and will no doubt give him a huge confidence boost going into 2019.

Fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood needed to secure victory to have any chance of overhauling his close friend Francesco Molinari at the top of the Race to Dubai standings. As a result, the Italian was confirmed as Europe’s number one golfer, capping off a truly memorable season with two tournament wins (including The Open Championship) and a record-breaking Ryder Cup performance in Paris.

The results are in...

A couple of weeks ago we asked you to think about which part of your game had let you down the most in 2018. Well, the results are in and it looks like finding the fairway off the tee is the biggest cause of concern, with 30% of you choosing driving as your answer. Short game areas also feature heavily; with wedges and putting combined racking up over a third of the votes.

New balls, please

Sometimes we can overlook the small details. Take your golf ball for example; you might be getting by on picking any old ball from your bag, but have you ever wondered just how much of a difference a brand new golf ball will make to your overall performance?

Believe it or not...

Tour professionals change their ball every three to four holes - some even after every hole - so why would you want to use a golf ball that you found on the course sometime last year, that has been from tree to tree with the scuff marks and discolouration to prove it?

Here's the answer...

A ball's dimples are designed to make it more aerodynamic and fly further through the air, so when they're worn it will affect each shot. We particularly like Callaway's Supersoft ball, which features a special dimple pattern that reduces drag and increases stability in the air.
