Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we highlight an ace week for Eddie Pepperell at the British Masters, we focus on how important it is to hit the fairway, and we look at some products that can help your game. Enjoy the read!

Competition news

Course update

Due to the poor weather on Saturday the competition was unfortunately cancelled.

Also as of now preferred lies on all closely mown areas is in operation, however competitions will continue to be played off the white tees.

Both of these will be monitored on a weekly basis as conditions change.

Herons' Reach Golf Challenge

The Herons' Reach Golf Challenge is a fun pairs competition with 2 member’s v 2 members of shop staff in a Stableford format; both scores to count over 9 holes.

Losers buy the coffee.

Pro's tip - play the right ball

I talked last week about the effect the changes in weather and temperatures have on the distances you get on your shots and the stopping distances.

So you need to think also about the golf balls you are using, for example you do not need a soft spinning ball as its benefits will be cancelled out by the conditions.

So if you are using a Pro V1 ball you can get better performance from using a Tour Soft ball. Likewise if using a TP5 think about swapping to a Project S for better results.

An ace week for Master Eddie

The British Masters took place at Walton Heath in Surrey last week and was hosted by the local favourite, Justin Rose. The tournament had a stark weather contrast from start to finish with conditions declining and making it a real grind for the players. The caddies were certainly tested during the final round trying to keep their players warm and dry. It was a day of umbrellas, waterproofs and wearing the correct layering, which at this time of year can help or hinder your round.

The tournament winner was Eddie Pepperell who dealt with the conditions the best and led from start to finish to claim a two shot victory. Eddie’s highlight of the week was his impressive hole in one on Thursday at the ninth hole, earning £20,000 for charity and a celebratory bottle of wine from the tournament host. Pepperell now moves up to 33rd in the world rankings and with it an invite to next year’s biggest tournaments including his first trip to The Masters at Augusta.

Accuracy over distance

If you watched the Ryder Cup last month then one thing should have become clear to you: finding the fairway off the tee is a must. Whilst distance does help, there's no point thrashing a drive as far as you can if you don't hit the fairway, finding yourself cutting down trees as a result - as depicted in the illustration below.

Find the short stuff

In order to shoot lower scores you need to put a premium on finding the fairway, something that a custom fitting for Callaway's Rogue driver will certainly help with. Its Triaxial Carbon Crown allows for a huge amount of forgiveness, meaning your bad shots will be less destructive. If you tend to miss with a slice, the Draw bias version will be the perfect option for you.
