Members Team Competition - Sunday 7th September

There are still team places available for our member's team competition this Sunday. It is a shotgun start at 9am and will be a £5 entry fee which includes prizes and food after the round, which will be subsidised by the Club! Format is best 2 scores from 4 to count off a ¾ handicap.

Competitions

September sees a busy month for competitions, with the last of the trophies to play for. This Saturday 6th September is the De Vere Trophy, which is a 4 Ball Better Ball format played off a ¾ handicap. Wednesday 17th September is the Ross Bain trophy in an individual Stableford format, and finally we see the season ending All Winners Trophy. This is played on Saturday 27th September, in conjunction with the normal Medal competition. This is an extra chance for all of this seasons winners to play for a final trophy of the year.. It's the Fed-Ex cup with a difference (and not a £10 million dollar prize!) A list is up on the members noticeboard as to who is eligible.

Congratulations go out to member Danny O'Connell, who last week won the Silver Niblick event at Blackpool Park. It was a tough day weather-wise, with only half the field actually putting a score in on the morning round. So with nett scores of 71 and 68, Danny won by 5 shots. More impressive scoring in a nett competition, playing off 2 handicap! Well done Danny.

Seniors Season so far…

The annual Matchplay Knockout Semi-final between Allen Artis and John Bostock took place on Monday 21 July. Playing with full difference of handicap Allen gave 5 strokes to John. The first two holes were halved then Allen went 1-up on the 3rd, then over the next few holes Allen went 2-up, but by the 9th John had 'pegged' the score back and Allen took the turn 1-up. The 'back-9' saw a swing in John's favour - Dormie 2 at the 17th, then Dormie 1. On the 18th green both Allen and John missed their Birdie-4 Putts, but John's Par Putt was given along with the win (Allen also made Par). A very close and enjoyable game. More later.

Week 15 of the FSGL (21 - 25 July) - Thursday 24th July Herons' Reach hosted Green Drive GC - "We would really like to return the scores to our favour after their 5 - 1 drumming of us last week!!"

'Quelle surprise!' the result was absolutely reversed 5 - 1 to Herons' Reach.

Senior Captain's (Tony Williams) Charity Day - proceeds to Cancer Research UK - was held in glorious weather on Monday 28 July 2014. An excellent turnout of 28 Members to play the Captain's chosen format of Stableford with 'spot prizes' for; Nearest the Pin on Holes 4, 12, 16 and 17 (2nd shot), Longest Drive on the 18th and 2's plus a major Trophy for the Winner. When all the Members were assembled the draw was completed - seven 4-balls teeing off between 08:37 and 09:25. The average score for the competition was 34.6 Stableford Points. When all cards had been returned and checked the following result was given and the appropriate prizes handed out:

4th Roy Macauley 39 points on countback,
3rd Jimmy Horsburgh 40 points,
2nd Bruce Laing 40 points on countback,
1st Jim Bottomley 41 points.

The section will be putting together a season ending article at the end of month, including how their first season back in the Fylde league went.

At least one person from each teams needs to download the app from the app store in order to participate and score your team; your team's scores will be beamed back to a TV in the 'Claret Jug' for the presentation afterwards.
