Pro’s tip of the week – Couse management

Well this lovely spell of weather shows no signs of ending and we have to adapt to the changes in conditions. We have spoken about your wedges and the golf balls you use; now we move onto discussing tactics on the course.

So the ball is running a lot and bouncing a lot too, so you need to reassess your club selection. If you normally hit your 7 iron 150 yards you will need to drop to a 8 iron to allow for the extra distance through the air and extra bounce. Think about how far the ball will run when you hit your driver and you may find it running into trouble, meaning you would be better dropping down to a 3 wood off the tee on occasions.

The greens are also running faster and will take more break so you need to make allowances for that as well.

First one way, now the other

The U.S. Open had everything from the sublime to the ridiculous, and it’s safe to say that the course set-up played a huge part in this. With much of the debate centred around whether the USGA made conditions too tricky or not, we posed this very question to you over the past week on our website poll and here are the results:

75% of you believe the USGA got it wrong at Shinnecock Hills

It really does make for interesting reading. Just a couple of months ago we asked you whether you’d prefer to see 20-under-par win a tournament or two-over-par, and the results were the complete reverse. On that occasion, 82% voted in favour of seeing the world’s best struggle to make a score, which is exactly what happened at the U.S. Open.

Summer camps

The Kids summer holidays are just around the corner and the dilemma of what to do to stop them being bored and who is going to look after them becomes paramount in all parents’ heads. So, with that in mind we will be running some Junior Summer camps throughout the six-week holidays.

Every Tuesday from 10.00am till 3.00pm for only £15 per child. If you are interested in this then please speak to a member of staff in the shop.

Which bracket do you fall in?
