Pros’ Tip of the week - Playing Winter Golf Playing golf at this time of year can be less than appealing given the inclement weather conditions. This week, our resident professional Jon Haines gives you a few tips to make the round a little more bearable. Essential items; • Two towels, keep one dry inside your bag for drying your grips. • Winter gloves or mitts (keeping your hands warm is essential to play good golf in colder conditions) • Make sure you have a good set of spikes on your shoes for good grip. • When possible clean any excess mud and leaves off the sole of your shoes. • When playing in these conditions, try to avoid using long irons off the fairways, instead opt for a hybrid or fairway wood. The latter won’t dig into the soft ground as much. • When playing in windy conditions, try a slightly wider stance than normal for all shots and a slightly shorter back swing, this will help with balance and control, which will help you consistently strike the ball better.
Following these tips will help to reduce errors during your round and hopefully make the round more enjoyable. |
