Pros Tip Winter Practice Now is the time to get cracking on your winter improvement programme, so let’s start with putting! Most golfers will tell you that you can’t do any putting practice during winter but they’re wrong, you can, even from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a space of carpet between 6-8ft and piece of A4 card! Place the piece of card on the floor & try and putt balls on to it, the aim is to get the ball to stop on the card. This drill is designed to improve your distance control.

Our Very own Jake Dudley reflects on how his debut season as a professional on the PGA North Region Tour. After completing my year 1 training I embarked on my first season as a professional golfer. I have played in 9 events, having 5 top ten finishes and a victory in the PGA North Assistants Championship of Yorkshire at Northcliffe Golf Club, Bradford. I finished runner up in the PGA North Assistants Order of Merit. With the exception of a disappointing performance in the Open qualifying I am extremely satisfied with my season.

Is slow play coming to an end?
The Rules of Golf are undergoing dramatic change at the moment as the R&A and USGA – golf’s two governing bodies – look to bring the game inline with today’s needs. Their Rules Modernisation initiative includes several updates that’ll hopefully bring about a faster speed of play and shorter rounds of golf; no one wants to be taking 4+ hours to play 18 holes. Well now the European Tour want to do their bit and to be fair to them, they’ve been at the forefront of modernising golf with innovative events such as Super 6 and GolfSixes. This week they’ve introduced a new event onto the 2018 calendar – the 2018 Shot Clock Masters. As the name suggests, players will have a strict 40-second shot clock on each stroke in an aim to cut round time by at least 45 minutes. The punishment if they take too long? A one-stroke penalty. Will it work? Let us know your thoughts. |
