The Kingfisher Trophy
Last Saturday saw the first board competition of the year take place, The Kingfisher Trophy. Played in a challenging format of a 2 man Texas scramble, the competition saw some excellent scores, and some not so excellent scores come in. Congratulations to Justin Hatcher & Steve Lynn on their victory with a fantastic net score of 62.8.
Team Matches
It has been a disappointing week for our league teams with both the men's & seniors' teams suffering defeat. The men suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to Fleetwood golf club. Although all matches were closely fought, the Herons' Boys couldn't quite turn it around. The seniors again came very close, but couldn't quite pull off a victory. Tony's match report is below;
Captain's Away Match Report:
Oh dear! Not a complete trouncing and not a disaster, and on reflection probably a reasonable score considering we were playing away from home and against a strong North Shore team. We had a few different and irregular pairings; Dave and Bob were our regular usual pairing - and they won, which supports the method of playing regular pairings as a winning combination.
Unfortunately, next week the team will comprise further irregular pairings, let's hope being on our home course will be to our advantage.
Next Competition
Saturday 3rd June is the Lombard Trophy Qualifier. For those of you who are unaware, the winner of this competition gets to play in a regional final with our very own resident Head Professional, Richard Bowman. I hope to see a big field on Saturday and hopefully the good weather will be on our side!
Junior Coaching
As many of you will be aware Jake has recently embarked on his PGA qualification. Jake will be running beginners Junior coaching on Tuesday 13th June for four weeks, the cost is just £30 for 4 lessons, which will take place on the driving range between 5:00pm & 6:00pm.
Places are limited so if you know of any juniors who want to try something new then please click here or call 01253 832505 to book. You never know you may have the next Rory McIlroy on your hands!
Welcome On Board!
As you will all know we have been without a teaching professional since Alistair left us last year. I am pleased to announce that we now have Jon Haines as part of our team. Jon brings a wealth of teaching experience with him, turning Pro in 1986 Jon has previously coached at various clubs across the North West and regularly competed on the PGA North region circuit until 2014. For those of you who follow your football (I know there's a few) Jon is a Blackburn fan...
I'm sure Jon will make a great addition to the team, so look out for him on the driving range next time you're here!
