Great Turnout!
First of all it was great to see so many of you turn out for the competitions last week. Wednesday, in particular, we had a field of 70 players. Let's hope you continue to support the competitions and remember, the more of you who play, the more prize money there is! The fixture list available from the golf shop.
Team Reports
Keeping with competitions, it was a disappointing week for both men and senior league teams. The men's team, who were hoping to defend the Cockerill Cup which they won last year, lost 3-2 in the first round at home to Fairhaven G.C. The senior's team faired a little better by grabbing a 6-6 draw with Ashton & Lea G.C. Please see the match report from Allen Artis below.
Captain's Away Match Report
The away match was our [HRGC] first of the season and I, like you, was hoping for a win. However, on reflection, I think that was actually too high a target and I think 2 ½ to 3 ½ was a good result away from home. Next week, however, a win is the target!
We had a fantastic game of golf with very good company played in the right spirit. There were times of dismay when a critical 'shot' was 'fluffed' and times of elation when a hole was gained. The course at Ashton and Lea GC was in immaculate condition; a testament to the work carried out by the ground staff over the preceding months. Let's hope their ecological project achieves the desired result(s).
Captain's Home Match Report
Well! Who wud 'ave thowt it? (sic). All square - 6 points each. Not the result we wanted or expected. A reversal from last week would have been acceptable, but not to be. It's still early doors with respect to the League with many more matches to play. Nevertheless, once again we had a fantastic game of golf. The weather played its part; a glorious sunny day with a south-easterly breeze blowing across the course. All the Ashton and Lea guests were complimentary towards the course layout and condition; some remembered it from years gone by and commented on the changes.
In the absence of a Men's Captain this year we are looking into the possibility of organising an away trip (home or abroad). Any reasonable suggestions are welcome, but I think 7 nights in the Burj Al Arab is out!
New Arrivals In-store
The Season is now well and truly in full swing and so is our stock offering in the golf shop! This week sees new arrivals from Nike and PING with a wide range of new Polo Shirts. With summer on the horizon - well, we hope - now is the time to look good and be comfortable for those warmer days. Technology is not only limited to golf equipment. Golf clothing is now using technology to wick sweat away, keeping you drier and cooler while stretch fabrics are engineered so you aren't restricted during your golf swing.
Come in-store and view this summer's golf clothing range next time you're at the club. And remember you can also view what's in-store on my website.
