Race to The Brabazon
Greetings golfers,
We said last week that the venue for the Winter League final will be announced this week!
Well as you may have guessed from the headline the semi-finals and final will be played over 2 days (Sunday 19th March & Monday 20th March) at the iconic Belfry resort, host of 4 Ryder Cups.
The semi-finals will take place on the PGA National course on Day one and the final & third/fourth place play off will take place on Day 2 on the iconic Brabazon course; scene of much Ryder Cup and European Tour drama over the years!
The four semi-finalists will be treated to an overnight stay with breakfast included and fight it out over 36 holes across the two brilliant courses to see who will be crowned Herons' Reach's first individual winter league winner.
Time to get your game in shape and occupy those 'Champions League' places by the end of February.
How things stand with 2 weeks to go…
Daryl Prance is striding away at the top but don't forget the winter league isn't won by the person who finishes top of the league. The top 4 will thrash it out in the matchplay knock out tournament, so it is only important to get yourselves in the 'Champions League' places and that is still all to be played for. With double points on offer, a 4 or 6 point gap might look significant. But it is actually only the difference between birdie and bogey on any given hole. Still all to play for! The full standings are on the member's noticeboard outside the golf shop.
Flying The Flag For Herons' Reach Across The Globe
Huge congratulations to our very own Cynthia Latham who has won the Four Seasons Fairways Competition over in Vale de Lobo. Cynthia entered the four day competition (2 day individual) along with many other locals, holiday makers and ex-pats.
The 36 hole individual competition took place on the Royal and Ocean courses and Cynthia managed to come out at the top of the tree by 2 points after the 2 days. Congratulations Cynthia from all at Herons' Reach, and thank you to husband Dave for the report as Cynthia was too shy to blow her own trumpet!

Over 60? Full member? Have an active handicap?
Want to play at some great courses such as St Anne's Old Links, Lancaster and Fairhaven to name a few?
Want to represent Herons' Reach and play in a well spirited season long competition?
Want to represent last year's champions and defend the trophy?
If this is you then the seniors' handicap team sounds like it's for you, even if you can't commit to all the league fixtures, that's not a problem.
Anyone who fits any of the criteria above and is interested in representing Herons' Reach in this year's Fylde League then please contact Allen Artis (Captain), Steve Layton (Vice Captain) or Keith Shuck (Secretary) as soon as possible. I have picked some personal favourites of mine to whet your appetite:
The Footjoy Energize shoe is something I have been looking forward to seeing since I saw Lee Westwood practicing in them in Dubai before Christmas, and they certainly do not disappoint in the flesh. A 100% waterproof shoe, that is light as a feather and looks great for under £100, what's not to like?
The Under Armour Storm ¼ Zip sweater has been carried over from last year, but if it isn't broke don't fix it, right? It looks great, it's water resistant, warm, breathable and under £60, definitely our bestselling item of 2016.
The New Ultimate 3 Stripes tapered pant from adidas is definitely going to be popular this year. With a tapered leg and more of a traditional feel to the fabrics used without compromising on looks, anyone in the market for some new slacks this year needs to check out these trousers from adidas.
Car Park Works (next week)
From Monday, 20 February to Wednesday, 22 February there will be some car park re-surfacing works taking place throughout the day from as early as 7am. Please allow extra time for any journeys to and from the golf course as this may cause slight delays.
