A quick update on the handicap team 1st leg result against Blackpool Park on Tuesday evening - the team worked their way to a hard fought 3-2 victory on the Home leg of the Cockerill Cup final, which despite the overall score being close, there were some sound thrashings given out by our team with Justin Hatcher and Steve Lynn coming out victors to the tune of 8&7 and Greg White & Matt Mustow winning 7&6!
So good luck to the team who take a slender 1 point advantage going into the Away tie next Tuesday at the Park.
I am sad to write about the loss of one of our long term member Jim Taylor who passed away last weekend at the age of 60. Jim has had trouble with tumours on his spine and neck for some time now and unfortunately lost his battle in the early hours of Sunday morning. Our condolences go out to his wife 7 family at this difficult time.
One more departure to report but on a more positive note is that our Assistant Professional Sam Mellor is leaving the club after 18 months here of a second spell at Herons' Reach. Sam has been offered the opportunity to caddy on the EuroPro and European Tour with Tour Pro and friend James Robinson for the Summer leg of the tour and then he is off to Florida to embark on a golfing career in the Sunshine State! It's a tough life for him…. We wish him well in his future endeavours and I'm sure he will show is face back here sometime in the off season.

USPGA Sweepstake
The major championships keep on coming and following the huge success of the Open sweepstake almost 2 weeks ago; we will again be running a sweepstake for the USPGA championship this week.

Ferguson Trophy Results
The majors have been coming thick and fast at Herons' Reach as well recently; no sooner had the dust settled on the club championship trophies on their respective mantelpieces. It was soon time to don the major mindset yet again.
It was the turn of the Ferguson Trophy this time; well done to the top pairing of Peter Simpson & Steve Barrow with a score of 75 points in the combined Stableford format. Their names will be etched on the trophy as the 2016 winners. Commiserations to Jason Evans & Duncan Whitehead who were just pipped at the post with 74 points.
