What a week for Willett…
Well, I'm sure we all stayed up to watch Danny Willett, the first Englishman to win at Augusta in 20 years!! Sir Nick Faldo was the last man to don the Green Jacket way back in 1996. And to make you feel old, Willett was just 8 years old when Faldo achieved that!! Some would say that Spieth lost it in that final round, but I think otherwise… the composure Willett showed to play the last 4 holes in one under par knowing he was leading the Masters at that point was fantastic… All in only his 2nd appearance and one week after his first son came into the world!!
Overall it was a fantastic week for the Brits, with 5 out of the top 10 coming from these shores, including the irrepressible Matt Fitzpatrick who is sure to become a future major champion and a Ryder Cup stalwart in the future.
Some good news and some bad news this week regarding the course.
The good news first; as long as we have a good weather window next week, Sean and the team will be out dressing the greens in preparation for the season, so please be wary of the guys out on the course and give way where appropriate.
Now two bits of bad news; we were hoping to get the buggies out this week but with the deluge of rain on Monday night and the bad forecast for this weekend, we will be pushing this back to next week at the earliest. We can only apologise for this, we want the buggies out as much as you, but first and foremost we have to protect the golf course.
The second and more serious piece of bad news; I managed to get out on the course on Sunday morning for 18 holes and was astonished to see that someone had taken their pull trolley across, not one, but four of the greens. Now considering I went out at 8.30am and we have member's times only, between 7.01am and 9.57am, this means that the culprit/s were either members or guests playing with a member.
The pictures below show how someone has been too lazy to walk around the 9th green and just pushed/ pulled their trolley straight across the middle of it. I don't need to inform you why this is not acceptable, so will not bore you with that, but what I will remind you of, is that all members are responsible for their own actions and the behaviour of any guests they have with them. This is not the first instance this year and will not be tolerated any longer.
If any member sees any person on the course, mistreating the course in any way, we ask that you report any suspicions to the golf team so that we can investigate and put a stop to these senseless acts and help the course be in its best condition this summer. All of the above includes tee boxes as well.
Well it was quite a week for Danny Willett as I'm sure we all saw, and he also was part of a winning team in our Masters Sunday competition! Norman Heywood picked Willett out of a hat and he was then "paired" with him for the round. Norman's stableford score along with Willett's converted stableford score meant they won the event!
Top 3 are as follows: - - Norman Heywood & Danny Willett - 81 points - Brad Sarjantson & Jason Day - 79 Points - Pete Lord & Emiliano Grillo - 78 Points
Many thanks to all of the members who entered, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the evening watching an Englishman win!!

Odyssey Putter Fitting Week
Our Odyssey rep has very kindly dropped off his whole bag of Odyssey demo products so that we can hold a putter fitting all next week.
Why not come and try the putter that won Danny Willett the masters last week; Danny Willett's putter is an Odyssey Golf Versa #1 Wide, with a white-black-white colour scheme.
The black and white contrasting alignment pattern on the Versa putters is designed to highlight the face angle at address and through impact. The Versa pattern comes in two configurations: black with white in the middle, or white with black in the middle (which is what Willett uses).
To book your place simply call us on 01253 832505, or click here, and get booked in with one of our two professionals: Ali Taylor or Sam Mellor.
