Hello golfers, Spring is in the air!!
Well the weather finally looks like it is turning for us after a terrible Winter for us all. We are seeing more and more of you calling to book a time or seeing you dusting down the clubs again for another golfing season.
There are quite a few members also looking at starting there season off to a flyer by booking a lesson with one of our resident pro's at Herons' Reach…this will certainly give you a bit of focus when getting out onto the course or even just getting down to the range to "find your groove!"
Below you can find a few tips from Head Teaching Professional Alastair Taylor and Assistant Professional Sam Mellor to help you on your way.
Know Your Roll
Striking the ball out of the middle of the putter will not only improve the starting direction of your putts but will help you achieve a more consistent roll. These two factors without doubt will improve your putting stats.
Place two small pieces of blue-tac on your face with just enough room for a golf ball to get thru. Start off quick small with enough room for off centre hits and once you get confidence place the blue-tac even closer to really challenge yourself.
Try hitting putts from 4ft and go to 8ft once you have holed 4/5 putts. Remember to keep a smooth acceleration thru the stroke and be confident.
Let me know how you get on...Thanks Sam.
Course Improving
As the weather improves, so does the course. You will all be pleased to know that we have now lifted our trolley ban on the course, with immediate effect. It is still a little wet in places on the course, so if you do have your wheels still on your trolley, we would really appreciate it if you kept them on until the end of March, as we are doing that with our rental trollies. Every little helps!!
As most of you will also have seen from last weeks newsletter, it is the time of year where we hollow core the greens. These have all been done now and over the next week or two, you will also see some feeding of greens with iron and then a top dressing going on. This is essential works, and after the Winter we have had, it is more important now than ever that we get this done. As ever we appreciate your patience at this time.

Do you get custom fitted for your wedges?
Many golfers get fitted for their drivers and irons nowadays but still many golfers buy their wedges 'off the shelf'. One of the key areas to get correct with your wedges is the lie angle. The golf ball starts very close to where the clubface is pointing at impact and if the lie angle is incorrect the clubface will point left or right at impact. This can cause poor direction with your wedges or extra compensations needing to be made during the golf swing.
By simply getting fitted correctly you will see a huge improvement in your wedges game and lower your scores. To learn more about the importance of getting the lie angles correct on your wedges watch the video from Alastair Taylor by clicking here.
