Happy New Year to all our members and friends!
Hello again from us all at Herons' Reach, who would like to wish you a Happy New Year, and hope 2016 is going to be a golfing success for you, with a little help from us!
We have had a busy Christmas programme as I am sure you all have. So now you are all filled up on mince pies and wine, we need to get you motivated about getting down to the club to start your golfing season early, and hit the ground running.
Members Xmas Scramble and Presentation
It seems a long time ago now, but back on the 19th December we held our annual Xmas Texas Scramble, and this year we also tied in our trophy presentation too on the same afternoon. We actually got lucky with the weather that day, as it was one of the few dry mornings we have had over the weekend… half an hour after everyone came off the course, the heavens opened (again)!! There was a good turnout for the competition, where members enjoyed tea, coffee and mince pies throughout their round and when everybody came off the course, there was a hearty curry and rice to warm the cockles before the presentation started. Some members got right into the Christmas spirit during the competition, with a few dressing up, but the winner had to be Club Captain Chris Prewett in his Christmas "onesie" stood alongside myself who came in a poor 2nd by comparison!!
There were some low scores in favourable conditions, the Captains team won the scramble with a fantastic score of a nett 56.4! All of the scores were pretty low, so well done to all teams that participated.
During the presentation, it was clear to see who were the dominant forces were in both the mens and ladies section.
Justin Hatcher won 4 trophies including being Club Champion for a record 3 years in a row, and Anita McAleese with a whopping 7 trophy haul in the ladies section including the Mixed Doubles Champion with Paul Audis!
All of the pictures we took will be on our website, so check them out if you were a winner!
New Year - New Arrival
Just a quick announcement on the news that staff member Craig Read and his girlfriend had a baby boy, born on Monday 4th January! They have named him Mason James and mother and baby are doing really well… Congratulations to Craig and Chloe!
**Important Information - Complete Trolley Ban - From 13th January 2016**
With the weather not relenting any, I'm afraid we have had to take the drastic action of taking all trolleys off the course until further notice. This is due to a total of 291mm of rain that fell in December, and we are on the wettest January on record so far. As you will all have figured, the ground is at saturation point now, and the constant traffic of trollies is causing the course to lose soil structure which will have a detrimental effect come the Spring season.
We do not like doing this, however if we didn't, then we would have to close the course for several weeks to allow a rest, which nobody wants. This total ban will be reviewed on the 1st February 2016.
